Protect My Public Media

We have devastating news.

Today, in a 51 to 48 vote, the U.S. Senate voted to defund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting — rescinding $1.1 billion in previously approved funds. For Blue Ridge Public Radio, that means a loss of $330,000 annually.

If you called or emailed your lawmakers — thank you. Your voice mattered.

But now, we urgently need your support.

This is perhaps the most serious financial challenge BPR has ever faced. To keep trusted journalism, cultural programming and community connection strong in Western North Carolina, we must replace our taxpayer funding — starting now.

How you can support BPR right now

BPR’s most reliable source of funding is you. Our listeners. Here’s how you can make a difference:

  • Become a BPR Sustainer: Maximize your support by setting up a monthly donation. It’s the easiest and most effective way to support our work. If you’re already a Sustaining Member, increase your monthly contribution.
  • Make a one-time donation: Every gift helps bridge the funding gap.
  • Donate your vehicle: We accept cars, boats, RVs and more. It’s easier than you think and helps power the station.
  • Join the Leadership Circle: Make a bigger commitment to support independent journalism.
  • Become a Day Sponsor: With a gift of $365 or more, you can celebrate someone or highlight a cause you care about.
  • Buy a car raffle ticket: Enter to win a brand-new 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid Premium from Fred Anderson

We’re not giving up. And we know you won’t either.

Ele Ellis is the CEO and General Manager at BPR.
