'Come Hell or High Water' oral histories reflecting on Helene

Buncombe County Special Collections Library has been collecting community memories of Hurricane Helene through their "Come Hell or High Water" project.

BPR partnered with "Come Hell or High Water" project to share community memories of Hurricane Helene.

The Buncombe County Special Collections Library interviewed dozens of people and collected oral histories, photographs, and more.

Lilly Knoepp is Senior Regional Reporter for Blue Ridge Public Radio. She has served as BPR’s first fulltime reporter covering Western North Carolina since 2018. She is from Franklin, NC. She returns to WNC after serving as the assistant editor of Women@Forbes and digital producer of the Forbes podcast network. She holds a master’s degree in international journalism from the City University of New York and earned a double major from UNC-Chapel Hill in religious studies and political science.
Jennifer-Land Deer joined Blue Ridge Public Radio in October 2017 as Traffic Coordinator. She spent the first 15 years of her working life in theatre, both as a performer and in management, before moving into Public Radio. She has worked in various capacities at both WABE in Atlanta and WUNC in Chapel Hill, including hosting and co-producing ArtVoice, a weekly arts magazine program on WABE-FM, from 2000 to 2002.
