Asheville resident Jeremy French spent the aftermath of Helene working to help others. He reflects on how the experience changed us and how we must learn from it.

“A lot of what I recall are very deep, profound experiences that feel like a tremendous gift," said French, founder of Making Whole, an addiction recovery and apprenticeship program in Biltmore Village.

French spoke with Buncombe County Special Collections Library in May. The library has been collecting oral histories, photographs, community memories and more to document Hurricane Helene as part of the 'Come Hell or High Water' project.
