Buncombe County Special Collections Library has been collecting oral histories, photographs, community memories and more to document Hurricane Helene as part of the 'Come Hell or High Water' project.

In May, Buncombe County Board of Elections Director Corrine Duncan spoke with the library about dealing with the sweeping challenges of holding the 2024 election in the aftermath of the storm

The county department had to re-organize voting locations during early voting and Election Day because of damage.

Voter turnout in WNC was above state average after Helene. Duncan said she thinks this is because the people in the region wanted 'to make sure that their voices heard no matter what.'
