Longtime Swain County Manager Kevin King has been chosen as the new manager of Jackson County.
King, who is a Swain County native, says he has served the county for almost 28 years.
“I greatly appreciate the opportunity to serve the citizens of Jackson County. While I have been fortunate to have always lived in Western North Carolina, I am especially excited to serve in the community I have lived in for the past few years. I am looking forward to working with the Board, staff, community stakeholders and citizens who are dedicated to continuing to make Jackson County’s future bright,” King said in a press release.
King told the Sylva Herald that he moved to Jackson County six years ago.
King served over 20 years as Swain County Manager in addition to having served as Budget Officer, Finance Director, Human Services Director and Clerk to the Board, according to a press release.
Jackson’s County Manager Don Adams left the position last month. He announced his retirement in October.
The Jackson County Board of Commissioners announced that King had been hired in a special session on February 2nd.
“He is more than qualified, he is a Jackson County resident, and we look forward to all of the wonderful things that he is going to bring to the table and hopefully bring this county in the right direction,” Chairman of the County Commission Board Mark Letson said at the meeting.
The commissioners voted unanimously to hire King. King’s first day will be April 8 but Letson said that he will be joining some of the upcoming budget meetings in order to get up to speed.
The commissioners thanked interim county manager Darlene Fox for her work.
