BPR's Raffle 2026 Official Rules & Regulations
IMPORTANT: Federal income tax, vehicle taxes, and other applicable fees are the winner’s responsibility
Western North Carolina Public Radio, Inc., d/b/a Blue Ridge Public Radio, Inc. (BPR), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization incorporated in the State of North Carolina. BPR conducts this raffle to generate operating funds in support of its public service mission.
By purchasing a ticket, you agree to the following:
Raffle Overview
Purchase one or more tickets during BPR’s “Driven by Generosity" Summer Car Raffle to be entered to win:
- Grand Prize: A Sapphire Blue 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Sport Hybrid SUV from Fred Anderson Subaru. The winner is responsible for all applicable taxes and fees. MSRP: $36,311.
- Early Bird Prize (selected from those entered by 11:59 p.m. ET July 30): A three-night (dates specific to October 2-5, 2026) stay for up to six people at Bluegreen Club Lodges at Trillium in Cashiers. The booking is during peak fall season and coincides with the October 3 Mountain Monarch Festival at Gorges State Park. All other dates are blacked out, no exceptions. Valued at: $1,800.
The Early Bird Prize winner remains eligible to win the Grand Prize.
The cost to purchase a single entry (“ticket”) is $125. Per IRS regulations, raffle entries are not tax deductible. No more than 1,500 tickets will be sold. Odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible tickets sold.
Eligibility
- By North Carolina statute, entrants must be 18 years of age or older.
- Employees of BPR and members of their immediate household are not eligible.
- Current members of the BPR Board of Directors are not eligible.
- The raffle is void where prohibited by law and is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Online and phone ticket sales are limited to individuals physically located within the State of North Carolina at the time of purchase.
Raffle Timeline
- Car raffle opens: July 17, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. ET
- Early bird drawing: July 31, 2026. (Those entered by 11:59 p.m. ET July 30 are entered.)
- Car raffle closes: August 9, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET, or when 1,500 tickets are sold, whichever comes first
- Grand prize drawing: August 10, 2026
- Grand prize winner announced: August 14, 2026
How to Enter
Tickets may be purchased in one of three ways:
- Online: Visit our website to complete the entry form and pay via credit card or bank draft.
- By Mail: Mail a completed entry form and payment to:

Mail-in entries must be received by 5 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2026. Entry forms are available for download on our website. Any ticket purchases received after this date and time or after 1,500 tickets have been sold will be returned to the purchaser and will not be entered into the drawing.
All ticket purchases are final and become the property of BPR. Tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable except as expressly provided in these Official Rules.
Selection and Notification
The winner will be selected at random and notified by phone and email. If a winner does not respond within 24 hours, is found to be ineligible, declines the prize, or if contact information is invalid, an alternate winner will be selected. Drawings are conducted using a double-randomized process with an electronic number generator to ensure that each ticket has an equal chance of winning.
Grand Prize Acceptance and Delivery
- The vehicle will be transferred to the winner through Fred Anderson Subaru following verification of eligibility and completion of required documentation. Fred Anderson Subaru is not the raffle sponsor and is not responsible for administration of the raffle and makes no representations or warranties regarding the conduct of the raffle.
- Winner must provide valid government-issued ID and complete a Prize Claim Form and IRS Form W-9, including provision of a Social Security Number for tax reporting purposes.
- Prize must be accepted as awarded, is non-transferable, and cannot be redeemed for cash.
- Winner must take possession of the vehicle within 30 days of notification unless otherwise arranged.
- The winner is responsible for all state/local taxes, delivery costs, dealer fees, vehicle registration, title, licensing, and insurance. Any optional accessories, upgrades, or modifications requested by the winner that increase the vehicle price above the advertised prize vehicle are the sole responsibility of the winner.
Early Bird Prize Acceptance and Delivery
- Prize must be accepted as awarded, is non-transferable, and cannot be redeemed for cash. The three-night weekend stay in a two-bedroom lodge at Bluegreen Club Lodges at Trillium is booked for October 2-5, 2026, and cannot be scheduled for any other dates.
- The 2-bedroom lodge includes a full kitchen and sleeps six with1 king-sized bed, 1 queen-sized bed, and 1 sofa bed most comfortable for children. No pets are allowed.
- No smoking inside, including electronic cigarettes. Subject to a $300 fine.
- Minimum age for check-in is 21 years old.
- Upon check-in, each reservation requires a major credit card for $100 pre-authorization.
- All reservations for supplemental amenities like golf, pool, tennis, dining, and boat rentals are the winner’s responsibility.
Tax Obligations
- Winnings are taxable and subject to federal tax withholding. Federal law requires BPR to collect and remit 24% of the prize value (minus the ticket price) in federal withholding taxes.
- Winner must remit this amount via certified check to BPR before taking possession of the vehicle.
- As required by law, BPR will issue IRS Form W-2G and report the fair market value of the prize as taxable income(minus the ticket price).
- Winner is solely responsible for all additional federal, state, and local taxes not specifically withheld.
- Estimated total taxes for the grand prize are approximately $10,000. The winner should consult a qualified tax adviser.
Cancellation or Modification
Limitation of Liability & Indemnification
By entering, participants release BPR, its employees, agents, and contractors from any liability arising from participation or prize use. BPR is not responsible for manufacturers or dealership warranties or claims relating to the vehicle. “Harm, injury, or damage” includes but is not limited to bodily injury, death, theft, or property loss. BPR's liability shall be limited to the refund of the ticket purchase price in circumstances where a refund is required under these Official Rules.
Privacy
Entrant information will be used solely by BPR for raffle administration and communications and will not be sold or shared with third parties. After the drawing date, ticket holders may request the winners of the Early Bird and Grand Prizes by sending the request with a self-addressed stamped envelope to 73 Broadway Street, Asheville, NC 28801.
Publicity Release
Acceptance of the prize constitutes permission for BPR to announce the winner's first name, last initial, and city of residence unless the winner requests limited disclosure as described below. The winner will also be asked to sign a separate Publicity Consent and Release form confirming permission for BPR to use their name, likeness, voice, and statements for promotional purposes in perpetuity, without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law.
A winner who prefers to remain anonymous may request that only limited information (e.g., “a listener from Asheville”) be used on air or in publicity materials.
Authority
All raffle matters are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina. All decisions by BPR are final.
