(6/10 5 p.m.) Governor Roy Cooper is banking on $1 million cash drawings and college scholarships as a way to boost North Carolina’s lagging COVID vaccination rate. The governor announced the vaccine incentive plan during Thursday’s COVID briefing. “Regardless of who wins, there is no way to lose - a chance at a million dollars or a college scholarship is pretty good motivation," says Cooper. "But even if your name isn’t drawn, the worst you’ll do is get strong protection from a deadly virus." Four vaccinated North Carolinians 18 and older will win $1 million each and four North Carolinians ages 12 to 17 will win tuition for post-secondary education.
