Asheville residents will see an increase to their water bills during the next fiscal year.
City Council Tues. approved raising water rates and adding a storm water fee. The city says the hike is estimated to cost the average household an additional 70 cents per month, or $8.40 annually.
The fee goes toward storm water management – essentially the systems that keep waste from flowing into rivers and streams following heavy rainfall. The increase is slated to take effect September 1.
The council is also in the process of preparing the budget for the new fiscal year which begins July 1. The 2019-2020 budget is scheduled to be adopted on June 11.
