In many areas, residents are urged to be vigilant as fires can spread quickly. Here is a list of places in Western North Carolina where local officials have issued evacuation orders beginning April 19, 2025.
Active Evacuation Orders
McDowell County
The evacuation order for Wild Acres Road was lifted.
Swain County
The evacuation order for Dark Branch Road and Bobcat Trail was lifted Monday evening.
Swain County Emergency Management announced on Monday afternoon that residents of Big Rocky, Sam Davis, and the Sky Cove Development are now permitted to return to their homes on Monday afternoon.
A shelter is being set up at the Swain County Senior Center for those in need. 125 Brendle St, Bryson City, NC 28713. Pets are not permitted.
Fire officials issued an immediate evacuation for Big Rocky’s Road, Bobcat Trail off Dark Branch Road and the Sky Cove Development at 4:15pm on April 19.
About 30 homes have been evacuated.
