It's a wide-ranging talk that moves from Butorac's emigration from Yugoslavia to Seattle, his path to conducting, his approach on the podium and the challenges of cultivating new composers and new music into the classical music canon.

BPR Classic is broadcasting this conversation at 7pm  Dec. 28 and 10am Jan. 16.

Matt Peiken, BPR’s first full-time arts journalist, has spent his entire career covering arts and culture.
