North Carolina is in a State of Emergency as Hurricane Helene moves closer, with flood watches covering most of the region through Friday afternoon. Blue Ridge Public Radio is a part of the Emergency Alert System, a national public warning system commonly used by state and local authorities to deliver important emergency information, such as weather and AMBER alerts, to affected communities.
Power outages are likely in our region. And despite BPR’s investment in back-up generators and infrastructure, these may affect our ability to broadcast BPR News and BPR Classic. If these occur, we will respond and assess outages as conditions and safety allow.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and sources for emergency alerts (including BPR), prepare for potential evacuations, and take necessary precautions to stay safe during the storm.
The BPR News team will continue coverage online on BPR's website.
