The Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office is investigating vandalism on Highway 215 near the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Spray paint reading, “KKK,” “white lives matter” and “rednecks” was reported yesterday afternoon on the road near a bridge. The office says that this is racist and that "KKK" stands for the Klu Klux Klan, a white supremacist hate group.
Chief Deputy Eddie Gunter says that there haven’t been any similar incidents this year.
“We haven’t had any problems at all in Transylvania County throughout this whole election process. Other than that very limited vandalism on a couple of signs - and it was just a couple of signs that was not widespread across the county," said Gunter.
He’s referring to an incident in which someone vandalized two campaign signs for Donald Trump with swastikas. The suspect hasn’t been caught so, Gunter says he isn’t sure of the motivation.
The highway is a state road so the North Carolina Department of Transportation is responsible for dealing with the vandalism, according to Gunter.
