WNC Ag Center: Hot Tubs Will Be Dry Tubs At This Weekend's Expo

WNC Ag Center

There will be no water in the hot tubs at the AG Center in Fletcher this weekend, The AG center is hosting a hot tub expo – just months after the Legionnaire’s outbreak linked to hot tub displays at the Center. BPR’s Helen Chickering has details.

The AG center event line promotes the upcoming hot tub expo:

the hot tub swim spa blowout will take place in the expo building Friday, Saturday and Sunday. March 6th.”

What the message does not say is there will be no water in those tubs or misters… Here’s WNC AG Center director Matt Buchanan

“Well, it's a dry tub show so there'll be no water. So, the only way, uh, Legionnaires' is spread is through aerosolize water, so there's got to be no water. So, there's no, no chance of Legionnaires because like I say, it's a dry tub. “

The decision by the AG Center comes months after a Legionnaire’s outbreak last fall, linked to hot tubs on display during the Mountain State Fair were.  More than 130 people got sick and four died from the respiratory illness.  Bunchanan says a formal policy has not been set, but for the near future, hot tub displays – will be dry tubs.  I’m HC BPR News
