WNC Organizations Shine The Election Spotlight On Local Candidates & Issues

BPR News

While Presidential candidates have been grabbing most of the attention ahead of Tuesday’s primary in North Carolina, a number of organizations have been working to raise awareness about local candidates and issues.

Asheville on Bikes is hosting a transportation forum with city council candidates on Thursday evening.

Those candidates will also make an appearance Friday night at an event sponsored by the Asheville-Buncombe County League of Women Voters.  The organization is holding a meet and greet that will also include candidates running for the County Commission and the State Senate in the 48th and 49th districts.

ABLWV board member Kelly Fowler says it’s a great chance for voters to  have a face to face meeting with candidates.

“People will be able to wander around and talk to the candidates for offices they are interested in, ask the questions they want to ask.  It will not be a formal format in any way,” says Fowler.

The event provides council candidates the opportunity to discuss their positions on transportation and how they intend to impact the city’s infrastructure.

Fowlers says the event will also include a birthday celebration.  The League of Women Voters turned 100 in 2020.
