Gov. Cooper & Cabinet Will Tour WNC Monday And Tuesday

North Carolina governor Roy Cooper and his cabinet will meet Monday in Asheville, while also holding several events throughout the day in Western North Carolina.  The governor's office said in a press release the events, which include two stops on Tuesday as well, will focus on issues important to the region.

Cooper and his cabinet will meet Monday afternoon at the Sherrill Center on the campus of UNC-Asheville.  Prior to that, the governor will hold an event at T.C. Roberson High School, where he will speak about the proposals he put forth last week regarding school safety.  After the cabinet meeting, Cooper will attend a roundtable discussion on the opioid epidemic with Health & Human Services secretary Many Cohen in Waynesville Monday afternoon.  The governor is also scheduled to speak Tuesday morning at Madison High School in Marshall.  

Members of the governor's cabinet will also be holding meetings across the region Monday.  Among those events include Transportation Secretary Jim Trogdon awarding three NCDOT employees awards for helping save a motorists life in Graham County.  Military and Veterans Affairs Secretary Larry Hall will visit the State Veterans Home in Black Mountain, while Administration secretary Machelle Sanders will visit Safelight in Hendersonville.  Safelight is a non-profit dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Prior to that, he worked at WMAL in Washington and Metro Networks in Pittsburgh, the city he was born and raised in.
