Crews worked to reconnect power cables that caused a blackout on Ocracoke and Hatteras Islands.

Power has been restored to Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands. Utility crews with Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative and its contractors completed work earlier Thursday afternoon.

Officials in Dare and Hyde Counties have lifted their mandatory evacuations for visitors, effective noon Friday.

Dorothy Hester is the public information officer for Dare County.

"I would certainly recommend that folks going to Hatteras Island check in with their accommodations provider just to confirm their reservation and their travel plans," Hester said. "But power is up and running and businesses are anxious to get folks back."

Utility crews worked a full week to run a new transmission line over the Bonner Bridge. That's after a construction crew hit an underground line last Thursday causing a major power outage.
