NEW HANOVER COUNTY
New Hanover County is dealing with a number of road closures due to rising water, as well as downed trees and power lines. Driving is very treacherous and strongly discouraged. That's according to Dylan Lee, spokesman for the City of Wilmington.
There are a number of power outages throughout the county. Several traffic signals are out as well. These should be treated as four-way stops.
People need to take utmost precaution around down power lines. Many are live.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY
In Eastern North Carolina, Brunswick County has issued a voluntary evacuation as of 8:00 am on Friday, October 7, for residents in unincorporated, low-lying and flood prone areas.
The American Red Cross has opened shelters at West Brunswick High School in Shallotte, North Brunswick High School in Leland, and South Brunswick High School in Boiling Spring Lakes.
- Dogs and cats are accepted at the West Brunswick High School shelter, but not the North Brunswick High School or South Brunswick High School shelters.
- Owners must stay at the shelter as well, and should bring documentation of rabies vaccines, food, medicines and any other items necessary for your pets.
- Residents who are evacuating may also take pets to the Brunswick County Animal Shelter. Animals must be reclaimed within three days of the State of Emergency being lifted.
CAUTION: While the shelters are nowhere near capacity, Amanda Hutcheson, public information officer for Brunswick County, says the road conditions have already deteriorated significantly. Simply put, driving is incredibly dangerous at this time.
If people in Brunswick County have concerns for their safety, they should call the emergency operations center at (910) 253-5383.
Then, officials can help them address their concerns and decide if it’s a large enough safety issue to take action and seek shelter outside of their homes.
