Patsy Keever Blasts GOP Actions on Charlotte Bathroom Ordinance

NC Democratic Party Chairwoman Patsy Keever of Asheville

North Carolina Democratic Party Chairwoman Patsy Keever of Asheville blasted General Assembly Republicans for calling a special session over Charlotte's anti-discrimination measure.  Charlotte recently passed a measure banning discrimination in city facilities. Included was a measure allowing transgender people to use restrooms corresponding with their gender identity.  Leading Republicans immediately spoke out against it, saying sexual predators could use the ordinance to prey on women and children.  House Speaker Tim Moore pledged to get enough members on board to hold a special session to overturn Charlotte's measure.  Senate leader Phil Berger followed suit and now the General Assembly will reconvene Wednesday.  Leading Democrats are calling the special session a waste of taxpayer money.  Gay rights group say the real safety threat is to transgender people.  Keever called the legislature's move "appalling."  You can hear her full comments on the issue above.
