Asheville City Council Passes Anti-Fracking Resolution

The Asheville City Council is saying “NO” to hydraulic fracturing.  Council members passed a resolution Tuesday night rejecting the drilling method and asking the state legislature to reverse course.  The Republican-dominated legislature has pushed to open the state to fracking.  Councilman Jan Davis joined the unanimous vote to pass the resolution.

Jan Davis: "As an elected body, we're speaking for the citizens of this area.  And even though there will be people that oppose the resolution, we feel that our citizens really feel very strongly that fracking is not good for the environment, and not good for the area."

The cities of Sylva and Hayesville have also passed anti-fracking resolutions.  So have Haywood, Marshall, Swain, and Jackson Counties.
