Handyperson Job Posting

Summary: 

BPR looking for a reliable, part-time Handyperson to undertake upkeep and repair tasks at our Downtown Asheville offices and studios. We will rely on you to help maintain our facilities and assist with projects by doing various odd jobs along with specified maintenance tasks. 

What you’ll do:

Assist with on-site facility maintenance and project-based tasks, including custodial, carpentry, equipment and/or appliance troubleshooting, painting and sanding, cleanup and organization, and more. Some examples of specific duties may include: 

  • Help identify and complete basic maintenance and light repairs as needed; 
  • Surface preparation, including filling, sanding, and painting gaps or crevices;
  • Proper installation of items on interior or exterior walls (art, sound panels, signage);
  • Assist/oversee outside tradespeople performing electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or other repairs;
  • Undertake duties as assigned for emergency or seasonal tasks; 
  • Identify and report the need for minor/major repairs;
  • Organize workshop and equipment storage areas;
  • Deep clean facilities by sweeping, dusting, mopping, etc.  

A successful candidate will:

  • have proven experience as handyperson or facilities technician with basic technical knowledge and hands-on experience with various hardware and tools and commercial or office carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems;
  • have good eyesight (corrective or natural) and ability to lift heavy objects or equipment and stand or move for long periods of time;
  • be well-organized and maintain good attention to detail;
  • have the ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve;
  • possess good communication skills, a positive work ethic, and professional attitude;
  • observe safety protocols and procedures while performing job duties;
  • be able to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • have a high level of energy and enthusiasm to help complete tasks;
  • be respectful to the work environment and to others.

The rate for this part-time position is $20 per hour for a varied number of hours, on an as-needed basis. While initially, work is expected to be up to 24 hours per week, the anticipation is that the ongoing need will be around 8 hours per week year-round or seasonally. The regular work schedule is flexible; but will typically occur during the typical workweek of Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. We will work with you to determine the schedule on an ongoing basis as needs are identified. This is a non-exempt position eligible for overtime pay. Overtime pay must be pre-approved.
