Blue Ridge Public Radio exists to provide Western North Carolinians with a deeper understanding of one another and the world, by being the essential, independent sources of news and cultural content. 

The most-listened to radio station in the exciting Asheville, NC market, Blue Ridge Public Radio (BPR) is the NPR affiliate for the region, providing public media service through its digital platforms and two radio stations– BPR News and BPR Classic – across a 13-county region in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The station maintains 19 broadcast facilities. 

Our newly renovated, state-of-the-art studios are in downtown Asheville, a city in the heart of the beautiful Appalachian and Smoky Mountains. Regularly included in one of the most desirable places to live in the country, Asheville offers a vibrant local food scene, incredibly diverse live music landscape, and endless outdoor recreation.

Summary: BPR looking for a reliable Handyperson to undertake upkeep and repair tasks at the interior of our downtown Asheville offices and studios. We’ll rely on you to {help} maintain our facilities and assist with upgrades by doing various odd jobs along with specified maintenance tasks.

Skilled hands and technical knowledge are important parts of a handyperson’s arsenal. You must be well organized with strong general repair skills. A keen eye for detail and physical stamina are valued greatly in this job.
 

Responsibilities:

· Perform maintenance and light repairs
· Paint and fill gaps or crevices.
· Hanging items on wall (art, sound panels, signs).
· Undertake light installation or carpentry.
· Repair equipment or appliances.
· Assist/oversee tradespeople with electrical, plumbing or HVAC repairs.
· Undertake duties as assigned.
· Identify and report the need for minor/major repairs.
· Organize workshop and equipment storage areas.

Desired qualifications:

· Proven experience as handyperson
· Experience with hardware tools and electrical equipment.
· Basic understanding of (commercial) electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems.
· Basic math skills.
· Good communication ability.
· Well-organized and apt in problem-solving.
· Attention to detail.

Compensation and benefits:

The rate for this position is $22 per hour {on an as-needed basis}. Initially, hours may be up to 20 hours weekly with expected normal to be 8 hours per week. Work schedule will be flexible within the work week of 8AM till 6PM Monday through Friday.
