BPR's Summer Raffle 2023 Official Rules & Regulations

Western North Carolina Public Radio (d.b.a. Blue Ridge Public Radio/BPR is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation under the laws of the State of North Carolina for the primary purpose of operating an educational public radio station. The BPR Summer Raffle is conducted for the purpose of generating operating funds.

Purchase one or more raffle tickets during BPR's Summer Raffle to be entered to win the grand prize of a 2023 Mazda CX-50 from Fields Mazda of Asheville and early bird prize of round-trip airfare for two to the destination of your choice from Asheville Regional Airport

Raffle tickets are $125 each, to benefit Blue Ridge Public Radio. Only 1,500 tickets will be sold. Odds of winning are based on the number of ticket entries purchased up to 1,500. Raffle entrants must be 18 years of age or older. Contest void where prohibited. Sweepstakes begin at 12:01 a.m. on June 19, 2023, and end at midnight on July 21, 2023. All times referenced for the BPR Summer Raffle are Eastern Time.

Prizes

Early Bird Prize: Enter the raffle by midnight Friday, July 14, 2023, to be entered to win both raffle prizes, including round-trip airfare for two to the destination of your choice, checked bags, premium seat selection, and complimentary parking from Asheville Regional Airport. Prize is valued at $2,000.

Grand prize: Enter the raffle by midnight Friday, July 21, to be entered to win an Ingot Blue Metallic 2023 Mazda CX-50 with Preferred Plus package from Fields Mazda of Asheville. Prize is valued at MSRP of $34,625.00

How to enter

There are three ways to enter:

  • Go to bpr.org and complete the online entry form and pay the entry fee with your credit card.
  • Call Blue Ridge Public Radio at 828-210-4813, 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Provide your entry information (name, address, telephone, email) over the phone, along with credit card information. Note: Ticket purchases via phone cannot be accepted after 5 PM on Friday, July 21, 2023.
  • Mail completed raffle entry form to Blue Ridge Public Radio, 73 Broadway, Asheville, NC 28801 with your payment of $125 per ticket. Entry forms may be obtained by downloading and printing the BPR Summer Raffle Entry Form at bpr.org. Mailed entries must be received by Blue Ridge Public Radio no later than 5 PM on Friday, July 21, 2023.

Ticket Purchases: Once submitted, entries become the sole property of Western North Carolina Public Radio, Inc. (d.b.a. Blue Ridge Public Radio/ BPR) and will not be returned or refunded.

Eligibility: Present employees of Blue Ridge Public Radio and any immediate family members residing with employees, as well as BPR Board of Directors, are not eligible to participate. Entrants must be 18 years or older to enter. Contest void where prohibited. You need not be present or listening to win.

Selection and notification of winner: Winners will be selected at random and announced on the air for the Early Bird Prize on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, and for the Grand Prize on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. Winners will be notified by telephone and email. If potential winner(s) cannot be reached after 10 days from the first notification attempt, or if an entrant is found to be ineligible, or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, such prize will be forfeited and alternate winner(s) will be selected by random drawing.

Modifications or cancellation of drawing: Blue Ridge Public Radio reserves the right to cancel or modify the Raffle. If 750 tickets are not sold by 5 PM on July 14, 2023, Blue Ridge Public Radio, at its option, may cancel the raffle. In such case, ticket purchases will be refunded.

Important car information: Upon verification of the winner, Blue Ridge Public Radio will notify Fields Mazda of Asheville to finalize processing of the vehicle to the winner. The vehicle will be the model listed above in “Prizes.” The terms of the car dealership’s and manufacturer’s documentation will govern issues of liability relating to the prize after acceptance of the automobile by the Winner.

Indemnification and limit on liability: As a condition of accepting a prize, the winner acknowledges that Blue Ridge Public Radio is not responsible for any harm, injury, or damage caused to any person or property, proximate or otherwise, the use of any prize by any person, and agrees to save and hold harmless Blue Ridge Public Radio, its principals, and employees from any claim of such responsibility. “Harm, injury. or damage” includes but is not limited to occurrences beyond the control of Blue Ridge Public Radio such as death, bodily injury, property damage or theft, or for failure of any automobile manufacturer’s or dealership’s warranties.

General: Ticket purchases are non-refundable and are not tax-deductible. By entering the raffle, participants agree that Blue Ridge Public Radio, its agents, and employees have no liability whatsoever for any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind which result from the date of the award. The prize is non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash. Blue Ridge Public Radio may use the winner's name and likeness for publicity purposes without further compensation. Blue Ridge Public Radio is not responsible for any failure of communication or failure of the internet or its website. Blue Ridge Public Radio reserves the right to modify these rules and will give prompt announcement of any rule changes. All decisions of Blue Ridge Public Radio are final and binding in all matters related to this raffle.

Tax obligations: The winner is responsible for all federal taxes (25% MSRP minus the wager); the winner must present a check for the prize tax to Blue Ridge Public Radio. (This is the recommendation of the Internal Revenue Service). If the winner of the car is from North Carolina, they will pay 3% sales tax plus vehicle registration fees to Prestige Subaru. All document fees ($699) and tag fees (if applicable) are the sole responsibility of the winner. All local and state taxes and fees are the sole responsibility of the winner. It is the winners responsibility to provide proof of insurance to register the vehicle. Blue Ridge Public Radio will file IRS Form W2-G with Internal Revenue Service, reporting the value of the prize as income to the winner. Winner must show proof of social security number to Blue Ridge Public Radio. This is for tax recording purposes only, and will not be used or released for any other purposes. 

Restrictions: By participating in the Blue Ridge Public Radio summer raffle, a participant agrees to be bound by these official rules, and by all decisions of Blue Ridge Public Radio.

Affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release of grand prize winner: The Winner must show proof of legal ID and will be required to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility and Publicity/Liability Release to claim their prize.

Authority and control: The decision of Blue Ridge Public Radio shall be final in all matters concerning the Raffle. The Raffle is subject to the laws of the State of North Carolina. The Raffle is void where prohibited by law. Blue Ridge Public Radio is not responsible for any errors or omissions in the Raffle's advertising and/or any printed, broadcast, or internet-provided materials or information.

Oversight: The accounting firm of Carter PC Accounting and Consulting officiates the drawing of the grand prize.
