Democratic vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz will make a campaign stop in Asheville on Tuesday evening.
The visit is the politician's first to Western North Carolina since his selection as Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate in early August.
The road to the White House for both parties includes many stops in North Carolina, one of a handful of key battleground states in the 2024 election.
Harris has not visited Western North Carolina as a candidate but made campaign stops in Charlotte and Greensboro this week.
Former President Donald Trump rallied with supporters at an event at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville in mid-August.
Trump's running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, is scheduled to appear in Raleigh on Wednesday.
People wanting to attend Tuesday's Walz event in Asheville must RSVP in advance, but registration does not guarantee admission.
While the event was announced over the weekend, Tuesday morning the location was finally shared.
The rally will be held at Salvage Station with doors opening at 3pm. The event will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The address of Salvage Station, a longtime music venue in Asheville is 468 Riverside Drive.
Road delays and closures are expected along I-26, from the Asheville Regional Airport where Walz is touching down around 3 p.m. before heading to Salvage Station over on Riverside Drive. Then there will be more closures after the rally ends at 7:00 p.m. The exact timing will only be confirmed shortly before they occur, Asheville Police Department spokesperson Rice Rice explained.
Buncombe County Sheriff's Office and NC Highway Patrol will also be providing assistance today.
