Mission Health has announced Certificate of Need approval for two new ERs in the Asheville area. One of the emergency rooms will be near the corner of Hendersonville Road (US 25) and Airport Road in South Asheville and the other will be west of Asheville near Candler.

Mission Health has announced Certificate of Need approval for two new ERs in the Asheville area.

“We are excited to be able to expand the quality care we provide at Mission Hospital’s ER in Asheville. Our neighbors to the south and west will soon have closer access to exceptional emergency care,” said Chad Patrick, CEO Mission Hospital in a press release.

Both are expected to open in late 2023.

One will be near the corner of Hendersonville Road (US 25) and Airport Road in South Asheville and the other west of Asheville near Candler. Both will be fully functioning ERs, open 24/7 with a dozen patient rooms, clinical laboratory services, on-site diagnostic imaging including CT, x-ray, ultrasound and staff.

Mission Health explains in the press release that both will comply with the federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) regulations as well as appropriate state regulations.

This news comes as nearby hospital system AdventHealth has also applied for a certificate of need to build a new hospital in Asheville.

The new AdventHealth hospital would have 67 patient beds and include labor and delivery services, surgery and an emergency room. The Certificate of Need approval for the new facility is still pending.

In March, Mission Health was fined nearly $30,000 for violating health and safety laws.

The hospital system is also set to open a new $68 million dollar hospital in Macon County in June.

The new Franklin hospital will have a 30-bed capacity inpatient unit with five acuity adaptable beds, 20 medical surgical beds, and five observation beds plus a 17-bed emergency department.
