Have ideas for strengthening BPR's news and music services for our region? Want to join a dedicated community that is passionate about the educational and cultural needs of Western North Carolina?

Apply here by 5 PM, Monday, January 8, 2024, to join BPR’s Community Advisory Board (CAB). CAB members serve a 2-year term and commit to contributing 2-3 hours each quarter to provide feedback, identify gaps in station services, and share community priorities with BPR.

Whether you rarely connect with BPR online or on air, or you’re a big BPR fan and supporter, this is your opportunity to share your perspectives to enhance the station's mission-driven service to Western North Carolina. If you know someone who’d be interested, please share this article.

What: The Blue Ridge Public Radio Community Advisory Board is a volunteer group of Western North Carolina residents, ideally comprised of a diverse range of lived experiences, ages, race/ethnicities, and economic and educational backgrounds. Their role is to “advise the governing body of the station with respect to whether the programming and other policies of the station are meeting the specialized educational and cultural needs of the communities served by the station, and may make such recommendations as it considers appropriate to meet such needs."

Who: BPR is seeking approximately 10 new Forum Members committed to donating 2-3 hours per quarter from February 2023 to December 2025 to strengthen BPR’s relationship and responsiveness to communities in our region. We particularly welcome residents between the ages of 20-45 and those who represent a diversity of perspectives and life and professional experiences.

Where: Anyone within BPR’s broadcast area is eligible to apply, even infrequent listeners. Hybrid in-person and virtual meetings will be in locations across Western North Carolina, with one in-person CAB Orientation in February.

When: BPR will consider only applicants who can attend the annual orientation session and quarterly meetings.

The 2024 meeting schedule is:

  • Orientation Session: Saturday, February 10, 9am - 12pm (in-person only), location TBD
  • Quarterly Meeting:  Tuesday, March 12, 4 - 6pm (in-person or virtual), location TBD
  • Quarterly Meeting:  Tuesday, June 11, 4 - 6pm (in-person or virtual), location TBD
  • Quarterly Meeting:  Tuesday, September 10, 4 - 6pm (in-person or virtual), location TBD
  • Quarterly Meeting:  Tuesday, December 10, 4 - 6pm (in-person or virtual), location TBD

Why: Your insights will inform BPR’s broadcast, digital and in-person engagement services and help to expand the reach of BPR’s programs to new audiences and deepen engagement.

How: Forum members work collectively with station management on specific projects and outreach efforts.

Let BPR know how you can help advance these strategic goals, or share the application with a friend or community member who would be a great fit for the CAB.

Applicants will receive a response by mid-January 2024. For questions about the application or the CAB, contact BPR’s Erin Adams at eadams@bpr.org or (828) 210-4812.

Erin Adams served as BPR's first Director of Audience from August 2023 to March 2024.
