WCQS Remembers Bob Parlocha

We wish to share with you the very sad news that Bob Parlocha, host of Jazz with Bob Parlocha from WFMT's Jazz Network, passed away unexpectedly earlier this week. Bob died of a heart attack and had been rehabilitating from an illness over the past year.

Bob, who was based in the Bay Area and was a full-time employee of WWCI, was the first and only host of the Jazz Network. WFMT broke the news to stations yesterday. From WFMT Director of Operations Don Mueller:

He was with us for 20 years. Bob will be missed by all of us at WFMT and, of course, by his many, many fans who listened to his daily program on stations throughout the United States.
In addition to hosting the Jazz Network, which was broadcast on scores of stations throughout the United States, Bob was a tenor and soprano saxophone player, host of the Dinner Jazz Show on KJAZ and later the station's music director. Bob was also a passionate gourmet cook.
We will miss Bob's presence immensely. Our condolences to his wife, Pam, and their children.

We know many WCQS listeners have enjoyed Jazz with Bob Parlocha over the years. We welcome your remembrances here and will be happy to pass your kind words on to WFMT and to Bob's family.

Late Night Jazz will continue for jazz fans everywhere - but with new host voices in the coming months. And you'll continue to hear archival recordings with Bob Parlocha's distinctive voice and passion.

Michelle Keenan was the Associate Director of Development at Blue Ridge Public Radio. She began volunteering for the station in 1996 and has been a full-time staff member since 1998.
