BPR Classic presents Summer Stages classical concert series

BPR Classic Presents Summer Stages produced by WDAV, a six-week long series of concerts recorded at the Brevard Music Center Summer Festival and An Appalachian Summer Festival in Boone.

BPR is pleased to announce SummerStages, a six-week long series from our friends at WDAV that brings listeners a collection of past performances at the Brevard Music Center Summer Festival and An Appalachian Summer Festival in Boone. Grab your picnic basket, blanket and your radio or smartphone and enjoy your lunch or dinner while listening to classical music’s great performers and conductors. Tune in on BPR Classic July 19th-August 25th, Mondays 7-9 PM and Wednesdays 12-2 PM.

Brevard Music Center Summer Festival

Keith Lockhart and the Brevard Music Center Orchestra are joined in concert by two distinguished soloists. Garrick Ohlsson solos in the First Piano Concerto by Brahms, and soprano Ilana Davidson sings the iridescent orchestral song that concludes the Fourth Symphony by Mahler.

An Appalachian Summer Festival

An Appalachian Summer Festival and its resident musical group, the Broyhill Chamber Ensemble, present a concert devoted to the piano quartet. It features a work regarded as the first major piano quartet ever composed, the Quartet in G Minor by Mozart. Also, piano quartets by Brahms and Turina.

Brevard Music Center Summer Festival

Conductor Matthias Bamert leads the student musicians and faculty members of the Brevard Music Center in works by three giants of music's Romantic era: a spectacular overture by Berlioz, the brooding yet triumphant Piano Concerto in A Minor by Robert Schumann, and the sunny Symphony No. 2 by Brahms.

Brevard Music Center Summer Festival

Soloist Itamar Zorman joins the Brevard Music Center Orchestra for one of the true musical masterworks of the 20th century, the Violin Concerto by Alban Berg. Also, the overture to an early, grand opera by Wagner, and the "Pastoral" Symphony by Beethoven.

An Appalachian Summer Festival

From Boone, North Carolina and An Appalachian Summer Music Festival, that event's longtime resident ensemble presents a fascinating variety of chamber music, including a trio for strings by Taneyev, a piano quintet by Robert Schumann, the "American" string quartet by Dvorak, and a piano quartet by Fauré.

Brevard Music Center Summer Festival

Keith Lockhart and the Brevard Music Center Orchestra wrap up the SummerStages broadcast season with a pair of popular, but contrasting concertos, both from the 20th century. Olga Kern is the soloist in the Second Piano Concerto by Rachmaninoff, and the entire ensemble shines in the virtuosic Concerto for Orchestra by Bartok.
