BPR is thrilled to announce that it has received three Public Media Journalists Association (PMJA) awards for 2024. The awards, announced in conjunction with the organization’s annual conference being held in Washington, DC, are for work completed during 2023.
BPR’s reporting won the following awards.
- First place, Collaborative Effort: “A regional look at abortion access, one year after the fall of Roe v. Wade” (VPM News, Blue Ridge Public Radio, WUOT)
- Second place, Special Feature Category: Economic Impacts on Local Communities: “Canton Voices: The effects of the Pactiv Evergreen paper mill closure on the community”
- Second place, Investigative Reporting: “'Secret Sauce' Expired: The Ramada Inn Conversion for Asheville's Unhoused”
“This year, we had over 1,450 entries from 144 different organizations in our awards contest,” said PMJA Executive Director Christine Paige Diers. “We’re proud to be able to recognize the great journalism across the country through this contest.”
The announcement comes on the heels of BPR's recent Murrow award win for the Ramada Inn conversion series.
