Would you like to help strengthen Blue Ridge Public Radio’s relationship with the Western North Carolina Community? Got ideas for enhancing BPR’s programming and increasing impact?

Apply for the BPR’s volunteer Community Advisory Board, the Community Forum, by completing this online form no later than February 1, 2023. Community Forum members serve a 2-year term and commit to contributing a few hours each month to provide feedback on BPR services and help improve community outreach.

Whether you’re an infrequent public radio listener or a strong supporter, BPR needs your voice to enhance its connection to Western North Carolina. If this opportunity sounds right for you, we encourage you to apply. If you know someone who’d be interested, please share this article.

What: The Blue Ridge Public Radio Community Forum is a group of volunteers comprised of Western North Carolina residents who serve as a conduit for feedback, initiatives, and outreach between the station and the WNC community. Their role is to “advise the governing body of the station with respect to whether the programming and other policies of the station are meeting the specialized educational and cultural needs of the communities served by the station, and may make such recommendations as it considers appropriate to meet such needs."

Who: BPR is seeking approximately 10 new Forum Members who are committed to donating a few hours per month to strengthen BPR’s relationship and responsiveness to the local community.

Where: Anyone within BPR’s broadcast area is eligible to apply, even infrequent listeners. We need ALL voices and views. Some meetings will be held virtually, others in Buncombe County and other locations in Western North Carolina.

When: Meetings take place bimonthly, on the second Tuesday at 2 PM:

  • March 14 (Welcome class of 2023) – 2 PM, location TBD
  • May 9 – 2 PM, location TBD
  • July 11 – 2 PM, location TBD
  • Sept 12 – 2 PM, location TBD
  • November 14 – 2 PM, location TBD

Why: Public radio works best when it is responsive to a diverse set of community voices to enhance programming, outreach, and community impact.

How: Forum members work collectively with station management on specific projects and outreach efforts.

Thank you for considering this important role with Blue Ridge Public Radio. If you have questions, please contact Catherine Komp at ckomp@bpr.org or 828.210.4830.
