Atlanta is considered the Black Gay Mecca of the United States.

But when filmmaker Red Summer moved there, she wanted to document the stories of a much smaller subset of that community: black, lesbian women who also identify as Muslim. She began her initial search on online forums and Facebook, and she eventually brought together five women who sought to establish community for black, lesbian Muslims where there was none. Her filmAl Nisa: Black Muslim Women In Atlanta’s Gay Meccatells that story and will be featured at the North Carolina Gay and Lesbian Film Festival this weekend.
