Jackson County Commissioners recently discussed changes to the regional library agreement that Macon County recommended in November 2023. The new agreement, which will cover the libraries in Swain, Jackson and Macon Counties, includes changes to the board structure as well as a requirement that the library will be “socially and politically neutral.” BPR discovered some of the proposed changes aren’t in the document.

For more than a month, Jackson County residents have sent letters to the editor and posted to Facebook in outrage over a slew of pink signs with business names suspiciously all starting with the letter K posted at shopping centers along Highway 107.The signs were taken down Wednesday but that didn’t stop activists from rallying against the signs – and racism in all forms.
