Rebekkah Hilgraves
AnnouncerA professional opera, jazz, and rock singer, voice actor, voice coach, audio and video engineer, and veteran radio broadcaster (over 40 years), Rebekkah has been in Asheville since 2019.
She has worked at WNIU in northern Illinois, WNED-FM in Buffalo, KQED-FM in San Francisco, and KING-FM in Seattle, as well as RadioSpiral.net, an internet station.
She began training seriously for a vocal career in her teens. Studies in Voice Performance at Northern Illinois University included art song and opera, early music performance practice, vocal pedagogy and stagecraft; she went on to study privately in New York City, and has performed in numerous operas, solo recitals and as a guest concert artist in venues throughout the United States. She gave the premiere performance of a new work, Rachel Rising (text by Rebekkah, and music by Rob Deemer), and premiered the opera The Eglantine by Sam Belich in New York City.
She operates a media production company, RadHaus Studio, which provides audio and video recording and production for artists and live events in several states.
She retired from the opera and classical side of performing in 2016, but continues to perform in other genres. She has sung rock, jazz, blues, and other genres with bands and as a solo artist. Locally, she has played keyboards and sung with Pinkish Floyd, Ovadya, and a number of festival bands, and currently composes electronic music under the moniker ʞu¡0ɹʞS (pronounced "Skroink").
