(3/4 2:30 p.m.) North Carolina has reported 868,056 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 2,502 from the day before. 1,290 people are currently hospitalized, an decrease of 13 from the day before. 11,399 have died from COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 36 from the day before. In the 13 North Carolina counties in Blue Ridge Public Radio's listening area, there are 45,050 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 793 deaths, an increase of 159 cases and 4 deaths from the day before.
(3/3 12:30 p.m.) North Carolina has reported 865,554 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 2,145 from the day before. 1,303 people are currently hospitalized, an decrease of 50 from the day before. 11,363 have died from COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 75 from the day before. In the 13 North Carolina counties in Blue Ridge Public Radio's listening area, there are 44,881 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 789 deaths, an increase of 86 cases and 13 deaths from the day before.
(3/2 4:30 p.m.) At least two counties in Western North Carolina are pushing the hold button governor’s plan to allow the rest of Phase-3 essential workers to sign up for the COVID vaccine beginning Wednesday(3/3). Buncombe County health director Stacie Saunders says the county's waitlist will not open fully due to upgrades and surge testing that was planned previously based on the original eligibility date of March 10. Saunders say they will notify the public as soon as the date is determined. A statement from the Henderson County health department says “With thousands of residents in the current eligibility groups still waiting to be vaccinated, local vaccine providers have decided together that as a county they remain focused on these groupings until further notice.”
(3/2 12:30 p.m.) North Carolina has reported 863,409 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 1,239 from the day before. 1,353 people are currently hospitalized, an increase of 34 from the day before. 11,288 have died from COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 34 from the day before. In the 13 North Carolina counties in Blue Ridge Public Radio's listening area, there are 44,795 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 776 deaths, an increase of 83 cases and 1 death from the day before.
(3/2 9:00 a.m.) Western Carolina University says the COVID-19 vaccine clinic on-campus is now open to the public for eligible residents to get a shot. Previously, the clinic was used to serve a backlog of appointments for the Jackson County Department of Public Health. It's run out of the of the university's Health and Human Services building at 3971 Little Savannah Road. Eligible residents can now sign up for vaccination appointments through the university’s website here.
(3/1 12:30 p.m.) ***Note: The state of North Carolina did not update case counts Sunday Feb. 28th due to a software update*** North Carolina has reported 862,170 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 3,622 from Saturday. 1,319 people are currently hospitalized, a decrease of 95 from Saturday. 11,254 have died from COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 42 from Saturday. In the 13 North Carolina counties in Blue Ridge Public Radio's listening area, there are 44,712 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 775 deaths, an increase of 199 cases and 2 deaths from Saturday.
