Since North Carolina received its first allocation of the vaccine against COVID-19, we have been inundated with queries from readers as to where they can find information on getting vaccinated.
As of early January, the state is in the early phases of the vaccine rollout, vaccinating people in Groups 1a and 1b.
As manufacturing and distribution speed up, the state will proceed into different phases. Some counties will move into different phases at different times depending on the number of health care workers, older adults, prisoners, teachers and other priority groups.
"Every county is making their own roll out plans, so no two are alike in their approach," wrote Leah Holdren, a spokesperson for Wake County Government in Raleigh.
Vaccine rollout is expected to stretch into the spring, even the summer, for lower priority groups. That means everyone will have to continue wearing masks and keeping their distance for a few more months.
NC Health News reached out to all 85 of North Carolina’s county health directors (some of the state’s 100 counties share health departments) and have heard from about 30 health department leaders, representing about half the state’s counties. We’ve also gleaned information off of county websites, social media pages and press releases to bring you as much information as possible.

Alamance County
Have you been informed as to whether and when you'll receive vaccine?
Alamance County Health Department will begin offering vaccinations for persons in Phase 1b, Group 1- Adults age 75 and older Wednesday, January 6. Vaccinations will take place at the Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC), 2550 Buckingham Road in Burlington. We will begin vaccinations at 7am. They are available to Alamance County residents while supplies last on a first come, first served basis.
A high turnout is expected, so we ask that residents pay attention to traffic, use caution, and bring your patience.

Alleghany County
Allegheny County shares a health department with Watauga and Ashe counties, under the Appalachian District Health Department.
Residents of all three counties may fill out a vaccine interest form on the Health Department’s website, and someone will call them to set up an appointment if they fall into the current vaccine phase. As of Jan. 6, the Appalachian District Health Department is vaccinating essential health care workers in group 1a.

Anson County
We are happy to announce that we are providing Phase 1a vaccinations starting today,” said a message on the department’s Facebook page. The message continued that health officials hope to start providing Phase 1b Group 1 vaccinations very soon.
“As we transition to more phases, we will release how to schedule appointments via news releases, social media, website, etc.,” the message said.

Ashe County
Ashe County shares a health department with Watauga and Allegheny counties, under the Appalachian District Health Department.

According the county health department website Beaufort is still in Phase 1a of vaccination.
Next Phase will be Phase 1b.1, estimated to begin mid-January, which includes anyone 75 years or older, regardless of health status or living situation.

Bladen County
Bladen County Health Department will move into Phase 1b of the NC COVID-19 vaccination plan on January 6," wrote county health director Terri Duncan. "We will begin vaccinating Group 1 of Phase 1b, which includes anyone 75 years or older, regardless of health status or living situation."

Brunswick County
According to a press release from the Brunswick County Health and Human Services, individuals aged 75 years or older can start scheduling required appointments with county health services for a COVID-19 vaccine beginning this Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 9 a.m. as part of the health department’s transition to Phase 1b Group 1 of the state’s vaccination plan.
Under Phase 1b Group 1, anyone 75 years or older (regardless of medical condition or residency) who does not live in a congregate living facility is eligible to receive the free vaccine from Brunswick County Health Services.*
Health Services only has about 100 appointments available as of Jan. 5 based on current vaccine supplies, so it is not possible to vaccinate everyone at once. If the county’s vaccines are already expended when you call, you are encouraged to call back another day or week as the county should receive more vaccines from the state weekly.
The department’s release said officials are not aware of other health care providers in Brunswick County offering vaccinations as of Jan. 5. Individuals should check their provider’s communication channels for more information on their vaccination plans. Individuals can still request a vaccine from Health Services if they have a different health care provider.
The health department will only take calls to schedule appointments Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at (910) 253 2339

Buncombe County
Buncombe County residents 75 & older are eligible for COVID-19 vaccines through Public Health starting Monday, Jan. 11.
People who fall into Phase 1B (those 75 and over, regardless of pre-existing conditions) can call (828) 250-5000 starting Thursday, Jan. 7, 2020 to schedule their COVID-19 immunization Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
The department’s vaccine information page notes there is not enough vaccine for everyone in this phase to be vaccinated at the same time.
As long as vaccine supply is available, appointments will be available for this population.

Burke County
"Other counties may not have as many Phase 1A individuals to vaccinate as Burke County and we are working to try to finish our 1A prioritization group before we can move forward with the next grouping," writes county health director Lisa Moore. "We are currently vaccinating 1A individuals and hope to have that group completed within the week. We have a county vaccination team who is working together on future planning for the Phases to come."

To date (1/5/2020), we have received 300 doses for Phase 1A group. We are scheduled to receive shipments weekly.
Is it up to you to notify county residents when the vaccine is available?
We push out information daily through our media briefings, through public service announcements, social media and website postings for when and how vaccine will be distributed. We also work with our community partners such as the Chamber of Commerce to push out information to the local businesses.

Cabarrus County
According to the Cabarrus Health Alliance website, vaccine will be available to all who want it, but supplies will be limited at first.
“Independent state and federal public health advisory committees have determined that the best way to fight COVID-19 is to start first with vaccinations for those most at risk, reaching more people as the vaccine supply increases from January to June. Keep practicing the 3W’s— wear a mask, wait six feet apart, wash your hands—until everyone has a chance to vaccinate.”
The department announcement explained that Phase 1b has been divided into three different groups, with more detail on their website.
The agency had a vaccination clinic on Jan. 6 for individuals within Phase 1a and Phase 1b – Group 1 which filled up quickly.
Is it up to you to notify county residents when the vaccine is available?
The next clinics will be on January 10th, January 12th, and January 14th. 10am-4pm at the Cabarrus Arena on each of those dates.
Currently, the county is vaccinating the following groups of people:
Phase 1a: Health care workers fighting COVID-19 & Long-Term Care staff and residents.
Phase 1 b – Group 1: Individuals who are 75 years old and older.
Family caregivers for these individuals do not qualify at this time.

Carteret County
The Carteret Health Care is now taking COVID vaccination appointments for individuals in Phase 1b Group 1 (75 years or older) according to the department’s Facebook page. Vaccination Clinics will be available as early as Thursday, January 7th. No walk-ins will be accepted.

Caswell County
According to the Caswell County Health Department is still working on vaccinating or 1a population--frontline healthcare workers this week.
The department announced a partnership with North Village Pharmacy to begin vaccinating people in the 1b - Group 1, those who are 75 and up.
People who are 75 or older can call North Village Pharmacy to set up an appointment.
Starting next week the Health Department will also begin vaccinating the 1b group and will be working with Caswell County Senior Center to hold a drive-thru vaccination clinic.

Catawba County
According to the Catawba County Public Health Facebook page, their COVID-19 Vaccination Appointment Line continues to experience a very high volume of calls. If you call during appointment hours (8a-5p, M-F), you will hear a recording asking you to stay on the line. The phone will then continue to ring until an available appointment specialist can answer it and schedule your appointment.
The department anticipates receiving weekly shipments of vaccine, and Catawba Valley Medical Group will begin offering vaccination appointments for existing Catawba Valley Medical Group patients only January 11 at (828) 326-3993.
Eligible residents - residents 75 and older and are not residing in a long-term care facility - will have an opportunity to get vaccinated over the coming weeks.

Cleveland County
As of Jan. 6, the Health Department has been allotted a total of 1,100 vaccine doses from the state health department.
According to Cleveland County Health Director Tiffany Hanson, the County has been conducting two vaccine clinics per week and will have allocated all 1,100 doses that will conclude Phase 1A (front line health care workers) by January 8.
Next to receive vaccines will be people over the age of 75.
According to a press release from the health department, there are approximately 8,000 residents in Cleveland County that qualify for Phase 1B, Group 1, and the county is preparing to begin a regional mass vaccination drive-through plan the week of January 18.
“The mass vaccination plan remains fluid, with many unknown variables including citizen engagement rate, vaccine dose availability, and any other changes that may be communicated from the CDC or NCDHHS as we move forward,” Cleveland County Health Director Tiffany Hansen said in the release.
The LeGrand Center will be a standing site that is used weekly, and the other school sites (Burns Middle School, Kings Mountain Intermediate School and Crest High School) will be utilized on Wednesdays and Saturdays on a rotating basis.
Once the Health Department confirms adequate vaccine inventory for that week, that number of Phase 1B, Group 1 members will receive a letter in the mail confirming their eligibility and their personal designated vaccination site and timing –which could begin as early as January 18, 2021. The mailed letters will discuss registration requirements, daily drive through logistics, and call-in information for scheduling conflicts.

"We are currently in the process of beginning to give vaccines – we are in Phase 1a and will be moving to Phase 1b, group one, on January 11th", wrote Daniel Buck from the Columbus County Health Department.
"We are receiving a weekly allotment of vaccines each week – the number of vaccines we receive each week does vary. We are getting the word out through our county partners and local media."

Craven County
CarolinaEast Health System and the Craven County Health Department are currently working to vaccinate Phase 1a priority groups which consists of health care workers caring for and working directly with patients with COVID-19, including staff responsible for cleaning and maintenance in those areas, and health care workers administering vaccine, according to a statement on the health department's Facebook page.
CVS and Walgreens pharmacies are working to vaccinate long-term care staff and residents.
Patients of CarolinaEast or CCHC, will be contacted directly by their medical provider’s office to have vaccine appointments scheduled. Patients of CarolinaEast and CCHC do not need to call their physician’s office.
The Craven County Health Department will soon begin vaccinations of the Phase 1b priority groups which consists of individuals 75 years of age and older, health care workers and frontline essential workers. Health Department patients 75 years of age and older will be called by the Health Department to schedule their visit so there is no need for those patients to call for an appointment.
The statement notes there are about 16,000 people who are 75 and older and there's uncertainty about how many doses the county will receive in a given week. A COVID-19 vaccine call center is being established to answer questions and schedule vaccination appointments for those who will not be called by their medical providers to be scheduled. That call center will go live on Jan. 11.

Have you been informed as to whether and when you'll receive and give vaccinations?
We receive an email each week from the state, typically on the weekend, informing us how much vaccine we will be receiving that coming Monday. On 12/21 we received 400 doses, on 12/29 300 doses on on 1/4 we received 200 doses. We do not know yet how much we will receive next week.
How will you to notify county residents when the vaccine is available?
The state is releasing general information but it is up to the county health department to provide the specifc details and make the arrangement to schedule the vaccination clinics, register recipeients in CMVS, etc. We finished vaccinating our registered Phase 1a recipients this evening and begin vaccinating Phase 1b group 1 tomororow morning.

"We are following NC DHHS guidelines and currently vaccinating those in the 1a population," writes county health director Lillian Koontz. "On Thursday January 7, we are moving forward with 1b(1) with an event at the community college for Thursday and Friday. That event will vaccinate 1100 eligible recipients. We opened appointments and they were booked in less than 45 minutes."

"Forsyth County is following the state’s recommendations for vaccine distribution. We will enter Phase 1B Group 1 on Wednesday January 6th," wrote county health director Joshua Swift. "Citizens 75 years of age or older regardless of health condition may call and make an appointment to receive a vaccine. We will also continue to vaccinate those in Phase 1A.

"Our public health department, in coordination with Gaston Emergency Medical Services and the Gaston County Office of Emergency Management and Fire Services is working together to host vaccination clinics every Friday at the Gastonia Farmer’s Market," writes Adam Gaub, the public information officer for the county health department. "The Farmer’s Market is centrally located in the county and has numerous bays that are covered to protect staff from the elements during these drive-thru clinics."

"We did two clinics last week for the 1A population. We vaccinated 670 people. 1A and then the 75+ portion of 1B can get vaccinated as of this week. We kicked off a hotline this morning where we had so many people call early on that it overloaded the system. We had a dozen operators – volunteers from several county departments – working to respond to the calls and we’ve registered over 600 people already today. We’re registering folks for next Friday as 600 was our target for this week from a capacity standpoint.
"We’ve gotten two supplies of vaccine from the state so far, and are working to get that in the arms of the residents in those qualifying groups as efficiently as we can.

Graham County
"We have a registry," writes county health director Beth Booth. "Interested residents can call and be added to the list. We are using that list to generate appointments."
She said the county is regularly receiving Moderna vaccine shipments.
"Residents are already aware the vaccine is available, as we have been vaccinating for a couple of weeks now. We used media outlets and word of mouth, which worked well."

Granville County
Granville Vance Health Director Lisa Harrison wrote in an email that initially many counties thought all the long term care facilities and group homes would be covered by the federal program.
"Not so – some are too small to be eligible or were not able to sign up in time," she wrote. Members of her staff have been emailing and calling all of the long term care facilities to solicit numbers of people who will need vaccinations.
"We are responsible for more than 30 of those across our two counties. That’s a lot of focused 1a time and we have a small staff so it makes our timeline hard to meet to start 1b as soon as others are."
Harrison said they've reached out to school nurses for help with administering the vaccines.
"We have an intense time ahead for the next 90 days," she wrote. "We’ll figure it out. We always do."

Greene County
Guilford County
Those in Phase 1B - adults who are 75 or older, regardless of health status - can make a vaccination appointment by calling 336-641-7944 and selecting Option 2 beginning Friday, January 8 at 8:00 AM. Appointments are required.
Phase 1B, Group 2 also includes:
- Health care workers and frontline essential workers 50 years or older The CDC defines frontline essential workers as first responders (e.g., firefighters and police officers), corrections officers, food and agricultural workers, U.S. Postal Service workers, manufacturing workers, grocery store workers, public transit workers, and those who work in the education sector (teachers and support staff members) as well as child care workers.
- Phase 1B, Group 3: Health care workers and frontline essential workers of any age
In addition, those who qualify for Phase 1A can still be vaccinated and should check in with theiremployers on how to receive a vaccination.

"The Health Department received doses of the Moderna vaccine on Dec. 22," wrote Henderson County Department of Public Health communications manager Andrew Mundhenk. "Since then we have been actively vaccinating frontline healthcare workers and staff/residents of long-term care facilities in Phase 1a."
How are county residents notified when the vaccine is available?
Residents of the county who in Phase 1a are being solicited and registered within the North Carolina COVID-19 Vaccine Management System (CVMS). That process is required by the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services to maintain inventory control for vaccine, Mundhenk wrote.

When we get to Phase 1b, we will publicly announce that transition and will provide further instructions at that time to make a vaccination appointment," Mundhenk said. "An appointment-based system will be necessary in order to avoid long lines and unnecessary delays with limited vaccine supply."

A statement on the Hoke County Facebook page notes that on January 8, 2021, the department will provide the Moderna vaccine to 1b recipients who are 75 years and older. Residents need to call 875-3717 to schedule an appointment.

The Iredell County Health Department reports they will not be offering the vaccine at the county health department offices. Instead, vaccines will be offered at various locations throughout the community to individuals in certain priority groups.

The Lenoir County Health Department is set to begin Phase 1-B of the COVID-19 vaccine distribution to county residents next week, Monday through Friday, Jan. 11-15, according to a press release from the county.
The vaccinations will take place at the Lenoir County Livestock Arena, 1791 N.C. 55, Kinston.
“The health department has a limited number of vaccines, so we may not have enough vaccine to give a shot to everyone who wants one now, but we will give as many as we can, as quickly as we can,” Lenoir County Health Department Director Pamela Brown said in the release. “We ask for everyone’s patience and understanding.”
Residents must have an appointment to receive a vaccination. Residents 75-years-of-age and older are asked to call the following phone numbers to set up appointments: 252-526-4202 or 252-526-4200, Ext. 4323
The release noted that when residents call those numbers, they will speak with a health department staff member who will collect basic information. Residents will receive a follow-up call for appointment scheduling and to complete registration. If residents do not reach a staff member when they call, they are asked to leave a message and their call will be returned as soon as possible.
The health department will be operating from 8 a.m.-noon each day next week for limited appointments as staff members transition their focus towards vaccine distribution.

Macon County
According to a press release on the county health department website, Macon County is currently in Phase 1a of vaccine distribution. This phase includes healthcare personnel fighting COVID-19 and long-term care facilities residents.
Macon County will advance to the next phase of vaccination when all interested persons within the Phase 1a priority group have been vaccinated, the statement says.
The department also announced a new schedule beginning Jan. 4:

Mecklenburg County
Mecklenburg Public Health has vaccines for people in Phase 1b, however, according to the department’s Facebook page, appointments for those ages 75+ have been filled through Jan. 30. These by appointment only COVID-19 vaccine clinics will be held at Bojangles' Coliseum, 2700 East Independence Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28205 beginning January 6 at 8:30 a.m.
Due to limited vaccine availability and the need to follow COVID-19 safety precautions, appointments are required for all eligible recipients.
“As vaccine supply increases, we will add additional appointments and notify residents when they become available,” a statement reads. “In the meantime, those ages 75+ are encouraged to reach out to their primary care providers (if they have one) to discuss options for receiving the vaccine. Both Atrium Healthand Novant Health will be offering vaccines to patients in this phase.

Montgomery County
The Montgomery County Department of Health will provide vaccine according to the latest guidance from NCDHHS," writes county health director Mary Perez. "For those who have no internet or email we are creating a registry, for those with email accounts we are entering their data into the COVID-19 Vaccine Management System (CVMS) system and they will receive a link to register themselves."

New Hanover County
Since announcing on January 5 that New Hanover County Public Health would transition into the next phase – Phase 1b, Group 1 – of the state’s vaccination rollout plan, the county has scheduled 3,000 individuals to receive a COVID-19 vaccine over the coming days.
Based on the limited vaccine supply made available to the county, all appointments are now full and have been scheduled through Tuesday, January 12.
“There are around 17,000 people who are 75 and older in New Hanover County,” wrote Health and Human Services Director Donna Fayko in a press release. “And we are trying to get to as many of them as possible, as quickly as we can – but we can only vaccinate as many people as the doses we have. We hope to receive an additional supply from the state next week, but at this time we don’t know when or how many that will be.”
When additional vaccine is received from the state, additional timeslots will be available to those in Phase 1a and Phase 1b, Group 1 (which is focused on those 75 and older). When that occurs, an announcement will be shared with the community, the press release said.

We started Phase 1b, Group 1 today (Jan. 5), which is those individuals 75 years of age and older," writes county health director Carolyn Moser. "We will remain in this Phase and Group until we are satisfied that anyone want the vaccine receives it."

In a statement posted to the health department’s Facebook page on Dec. 31, Health Director John Silvernail, MD wrote that the department is working with Vidant Health to vaccinate healthcare workers who are caring for patients who have COVID-19; healthcare workers who are vaccinating other healthcare workers; and residents and staff of long-term care facilities within our community.
“The vaccine will soon be available to other groups within the community, but will be staggered based upon risk of contracting the virus. Once available to these groups, the Health Department will notify residents by sending news releases to all local media outlets,” he wrote.

Polk County
Polk County is vaccinating residents in groups 1a and 1b group 1 - those over 75 years of age.

Randolph County
Randolph County Public Health is currently vaccinating individuals in Phase 1a and Phase 1b, Group 1 which are frontline health care workers and residents who are 75 and older, regardless of health status.
An announcement on the health department’s information page notes that they have been “experiencing a tremendously high call volume in scheduling appointments.”
A new appointment line will go live at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 11, 2021. Beginning then, for residents who are part of Phase 1a or Phase 1b, Group 1 and need to schedule an appointment for the vaccine, call 336-365-6110.

Richmond County
FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital - Richmond and the Richmond County Health Department will host vaccine clinics starting Monday, Jan. 11, according to a press release from the health department.
Residents 75 and older can call 910 417 3030 to schedule appointments. Be Prepared to leave a voicemail with name, date of birth, email address and a phone number. The statement says people will receive a callback within 72 hours.
Vaccine clinics will be open Monday, Wednesday, Thurday and Friday for the weeks of Jan 11 and Jan 18 from 9 to 11:30 am and 12:30 to 3 pm.
The statement also said the department is not scheduling appointments past Jan. 22 right now.

Robeson County
"We have received vaccine from Moderna (100) and Pfizer (975)," wrote Robeson County Health Director Bill Smith. "The hospital has received nearly 3000 Pfizer - after completing their staff 1a personnel they opened a community clinic for other providers.
Smith said the Health Department is vaccinating Monday thru Friday regular hours, Wednesday evening and Saturday morning and taking appointments only within the priority groups being served at the time, which is currently 1b - those 75 years old and older - as of (Jan 6).

Rockingham County
"I have been hearing all across the state that many counties are quickly moving ahead," wrote Rockingham County Health Director Fred Wright, who noted the long lines and high demand he's heard about from other health directors.

As of Friday the county had received about 900 doses of the Moderna vaccine.
Wright said his department was in the process of finishing up vaccinating people in the 1a group, with the front line staff for both the local health department and other county and partner agencies.
"While this is wrapping up, we are also preparing for that large 1b grouping - preparing forms, logistics to a drive through setting {potentially 2 sites}, phone/hotline information, and most importantly, what I am hearing as best practice from colleagues around the state," he wrote.

Rowan County
Rowan County is currently vaccinating residents in groups 1a and adults over 75 years. Vaccines will be available through drive-through clinics beginning Jan. 11 (as well as individual clinics Jan. 6 and 7) at West End Plaza. Appointments are not necessary, and clinic hours will be Mon. - Fri. 9:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.
Rutherford County
Vaccines are available for Rutherford County residents in groups 1a and 1b, administered by the Foothills Health Department. To get an appointment, register through this form or by calling (828)223-5735.
Sampson County
According to their Facebook page, the Sampson County Health Department began administering vaccines to healthcare workers in group 1a on Dec. 30. They have not yet begun group 1b and will not be taking appointments. There will be a vaccination event from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm on Wednesday, January 13th at the Sampson County Exposition Center for adults over 75 to receive the first dose of the vaccine.
According to the website: "Vaccinations will be provided on a first come/first served basis that day and as available vaccine supply allows. Eligible individuals seeking vaccination are encouraged to bring an ID or some verification of date of birth."
Scotland County
"Scotland County is working on the 1A classification of vaccine candidates," writes county health director Kevin Patterson on Jan. 5. "As we move between phases, there is a local responsibility to keep the community informed to who would be eligible for the vaccine."

Stanly County
The Stanly County Department of Public Health updates their Facebook regularly. As of Jan. 6, the County is administering vaccines to people in group 1a and do not yet have a set date for when they will begin on group 1b.
Stokes County
Stokes County is currently giving vaccines to people in group 1a and will begin distributing vaccines to adults over 75 next week, according to their Facebook.
Anyone eligible who has already called is on the list. The Center asks for patience on their post: "Please be patient as we are overwhelmed and short staffed at the moment."
Surry County
Surry County Health and Nutrition Center is vaccinating people in group 1a and adults over the age of 75, according to their Facebook page.

Swain County
According to Swain County Health Department’s Facebook page, vaccines are available to county residents in group 1a and anyone older than 75.
If you are over 75, you may call on Jan. 14 to schedule an appointment.
Transylvania County
Transylvania County is currently distributing vaccines to health care workers in group 1a. According to the County’s website, vaccinations for group 1b are “expected to start in mid-January.”
A total of 146 people had received the first dose of the vaccine by Jan. 5, and one person had completed both doses.
Tyrrell County
Residents of Martin, Tyrell and Washington counties can register for the vaccine online or by calling 252-793-3023. As of Jan. 6, the counties are vaccinating groups 1a and 1b.
Union County
According to Union County Health Department’s website, Union County residents in group 1a or anyone above the age of 75 can schedule an appointment to get a vaccine. The rest of group 1b - health care workers and frontline essential workers not directly working with COVID-19 patients - are not yet eligible.
Vaccines are available by appointment only, and there is not currently a date when the next group will be able to schedule appointments.
Vance County
Granville Vance Health Director Lisa Harrison wrote in an email that initially many counties thought all the long term care facilities and group homes would be covered by the federal program.
"Not so – some are too small to be eligible or were not able to sign up in time," she wrote. Members of her staff have been emailing and calling all of the long term care facilities to solicit numbers of people who will need vaccinations.
"We are responsible for more than 30 of those across our two counties. That’s a lot of focused 1a time and we have a small staff so it makes our timeline hard to meet to start 1b as soon as others are."
Harrison said they've reached out to school nurses for help with administering the vaccines.
"We have an intense time ahead for the next 90 days," she wrote. "We’ll figure it out. We always do."

Harrison said her department is establishing a hotline for people to call in and register, which will be live this week, with the goal of having three people staffing the phones, as well as sending out a notification via the reverse EMS text and phone system. Information will also be available via the Granville Vance HealthDepartment COVID information page.
Wake County
Wake county has a comparatively larger number of health care workers and medical systems than some other counties, so we continue to vaccinate Phase 1a eligible persons," wrote county spokeswoman Leah Holdren. "There is not enough vaccine supply yet to move into Phase 1b. However, we hope to move on very soon and are finalizing plans for Phase 1b vaccination."
She said Information would be coming out about timing and how residents can sign up for appointments. The county is not taking sign-ups for individuals in Phase 1b yet.
"Wake County has the largest population in the state, and it will take longer to get through each phase than most other counties," wrote Holdren, who asked residents for patience.

To date, Wake County has received 3900 doses of the Pfizer vaccine. We expect to continue to receive a shipment of 975 Pfizer doses each week. Next week is the week that we anticipate receiving our first shipment of second shot doses.
Is it up to you to notify county residents when the vaccine is available?
Wake County Public Health, local hospitals and community partners have been reaching out to Phase 1a providers and sharing out information that they can go online to fill out a survey to qualify and later sign up for vaccines, Holdren wrote.
"We are finalizing our Phase 1b vaccination framework and will be sharing out with the public how they can sign up to for vaccines once supply is available," she said. "We’ll also be working with hospitals and community partners to proactively reach out to those in the 75+ group. It's estimated there are about 51,000 in the 75+ category in Wake County.
"We do not have anywhere near the supply of vaccine to vaccinate that group."

Warren County
There is not currently any vaccine information online for Warren County, and we have not yet heard back from the Health Department.
Washington County
Residents of Martin, Tyrell and Washington counties can register for the vaccine online or by calling 252-793-3023. As of Jan. 6, the counties are vaccinating groups 1a and 1b.
Watauga County
Watauga County shares a health department with Allegheny and Ashe counties, under the Appalachian District Health Department.
Residents of all three counties may fill out a vaccine interest form on the Health Department’s website, and someone will call them to set up an appointment if they fall into the current vaccine phase. As of Jan. 6, the Appalachian District Health Department is vaccinating essential health care workers in group 1a.

The department releases a weekly situation update for COVID-19 for Alleghany, Ashe and Watauga Counties each Friday. In this report they also include a vaccine update. These can be found on their website at this link.
Wayne County
The Wayne County Health Department is offering vaccines to groups 1a and 1b as of Jan. 6. Residents who fall into group 1b (adults 75 years old or older and frontline essential workers) can schedule a vaccine appointment on the County’s hotline, Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., at 919-705-1800. Spots are limited by the amount of vaccine the County receives from the state.
According to the County Health Department website, “call takers will complete the registration paperwork that is required by the state, and will schedule an appointment if one is available. If all appointment slots have been filled, residents will be placed on a waiting list until we receive more doses of the vaccine.”
Wilkes County
The Wilkes County Health Department posts about available vaccines ontheir website. There are no more vaccines for the week of Jan. 6, but the County website reports that they expect a shipment early next week and are vaccinating people who fall within groups 1a (Health care workers and long-term care staff and residents) and 1b (adults 75 years or older and frontline essential workers).
Wilson County
The Wilson County Health Department Facebook page reports that their phone systems are being overwhelmed with a high volume of calls, as many as 14,000 in one day, but that they were vaccinating residents in group 1b (Adults 75 years or older as well as essential workers) as well as group 1a by December 30.
For more specific questions or to schedule your appointment, the County says to call their COVID Hotline at 252-237-3141 and select option 3. Appointments for the week of Jan. 6 and the next week are full, but the County expects to add additional appointment slots beginning next week.
Yadkin County
The Yadkin County Human Services Agency Facebook page posts daily updates of COVID-19 cases in the county and directs residents to the county’s websitefor vaccine information. Residents can fill out a form on the website to be contacted by the county about their place in line for the vaccine.
According to the website, respondents will be contacted in order of their “risk level, the available supply, and which phase the State is currently working under within the prioritization framework.”
Yancey County
Yancey County's Facebook page includes a Google Form where residents can enter their information and risk factors to get an idea of where they fall in the priority list for the vaccine.
The Facebook post with the form link asks Yancey County residents for their patience: “I think I'll still have to respond to each of you individually, so you will have to be very patient. One thing I want you all to know is that even if you don't fill out this form that doesn't mean that you won't be able to get the vaccine. I'm going to write another post about things we're learning about how this is going to work so that you know what to expect......at least today. You need to keep in mind that we're all learning here, and things are changing very fast so some of the information I give you might change. We just have to be flexible.”
