WNC COVID-19 Updates: Week Of Dec. 28

(1/3 12:30 p.m.) North Carolina has reported 564,924 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 6,487 from the day before.  3,576 people are currently hospitalized (a new high), an increase of 97 from the day before.  6,910 have died from COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 18 from the day before.  In the 13 North Carolina counties in Blue Ridge Public Radio's listening area, there are 28,178 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 436 deaths, an increase of 348 cases and 1 death from the day before.

(1/2 12:30 p.m.) ***North Carolina did not provide a daily update on 1/1*** North Carolina has reported 558,437 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 18,892 from the Thursday.  3,479 people are currently hospitalized (a new high), an increase of 7 from Thursday.  6,892 have died from COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 146 from Thursday.  In the 13 North Carolina counties in Blue Ridge Public Radio's listening area, there are 27,830 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 435 deaths, an increase of 1,323 cases and 12 deaths from Thursday.<--break->

(12/31 12:30 p.m.) North Carolina has reported 539,545 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 6,715 from the day before.  3,472 people are currently hospitalized (a new high), an increase of 143 from the day before.  6,748 have died from COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 19 from the day before.  In the 13 North Carolina counties in Blue Ridge Public Radio's listening area, there are 26,507 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 423 deaths, an increase of 315 cases and 0 deaths from the day before.

(12/30 2 p.m.) The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is updating the state’s vaccination plan to align with new federal recommendations issued last week.  At Wednesday’s coronavirus task force briefing health secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen reviewed the updated phases and asked for the public’s patience,” Vaccines will be available to everyone, but  supplies are very limited and will continued to be limited for several months.”    More information about the vaccine rollout plan can be found here: yourspotyourshot.nc.gov
