Four New Nonstops To Asheville

BPR News

Boston, Chicago, Houston and Austin will soon be a non-stop plane ride away from Asheville.  The budget airline Allegiant is adding the four cities to its service from the Asheville Regional airport

Nonstop flights to Chicago, Boston and Houston, which are new destinations for the airline, along with Austin will begin this spring.  Lew Bleiweis is the airport’s executive director and says the addition of four routes at once is a big deal for the airport.

“The last 5 years we’ve expanded services, but it’s usually been 1 or 2 cities at a time.  It has never happened here in Asheville that we’ve gotten four new cities at a time, three of which are brand new to the airline," says Bleiweis.  "A lot of the time we get a new city, but that airline has been serving that city for a while. So this is unprecedented and we love to be part of that rollout of new cities along with Austin”

Matthew Burril chairs the Airport Authority board and says the four new connections will attract more than tourists to Western North Carolina.

“The fact that we can bring people into Asheville they can stay for a couple of days or explore and can vacation," says Burril. " They can also explore business opportunities, educational opportunities and turn around and go home and be home in three hours . That’s an enormous advantage for us. “
