The Dogwood Health Trust Foundation has officially opened up the search for a CEO.
The organization, which was created by the sale of Mission Health to for-profit HCA Health, has posted a leadership profile on their website with details about applying for the position.
The CEO would report directly to Janice Brumit, chair of the Dogwood Health Trust Board. The board has been active since the end of the summer in 2018. The board make up was criticized as not being inclusive of regional and racial diversity leading up to the sale. North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein added in conditions to include board members from each regional hospital region on the board in his approval of the deal.
Candidates will be presented to the foundation search committee in May and will be interviewed in June. The search is being overseen by recruiting firm Witt/Kieffer based in Illinois.
The profile outlines responsibilities as engaging with the community, working with the board on strategic planning and leverage partnerships across Western North Carolina among others.
The rural communities where the six regional hospitals are located have remained “optimistically skeptical” to see how HCA’s ownership will change care in the region. Dogwood Health Trust has already promised $25 million dollars over the next five years for an opioid and substance abuse program. There will also be a new hospital built in Franklin,NC among other HCA projects.
Each regional hospital has also reworked their hospital foundation into a nonprofit foundation that can work with Dogwood Health Trust.
The Dogwood Health Trust board is currently made up of: John R. Ball, MD, JD (Buncombe County), Michell Hicks, CPA (Qualla Boundary), Sam Lupas (Jackson County), George Renfro (Buncombe County), Robert C. Roberts (Buncombe County), Wyatt S. Stevens, JD (Buncombe County) and Martha Tyner (Yancey County),Jackie Godlock(Rutherford County), Vivian Bolanos (Henderson County) and Jacquelyn “Jackie” Shropshire Simms (Buncombe County). This brings the total board to 12 including Vice Chair Jack Cecil and Chair Janice Brumit.
