The Mission Health-HCA Deal is still under review on the desk of the state attorney general. Mission Health previously stated that the dealwould be finalized in November. However, critics have questioned the price tag on the deal, the commitment made by HCA to keep rural hospitals open and the structure of the Dogwood Health Trust Foundation.
NC Attorney General Josh Stein released a press release yesterday that outlined how he plans to “fight to protect healthcare in Western North Carolina.” The offical 60 day clock for the final review of the deal has not yet started.
Stein stated in the press release:
“My review focuses on three main issues. First, the people of western North Carolina deserve greater certainty about HCA’s commitments to continue to provide needed healthcare at Mission Hospital – and especially – the other five rural hospitals in the system. Second, the people’s longtime and substantial investment in the healthcare system must be fully preserved in the Dogwood Health Trust, the new foundation. Third, the board of the Dogwood Health Trust should represent the full diversity of western North Carolina and remain connected to the public.”
