Nominations For New Chancellor Of Western Carolina Are Still Open

WCU has been searching for a new chancellor since Chancellor David O. Belcher stepped down in December 2017. Belcher passed away this summer.

The fall semester is coming to a close at Western Carolina University. The last day of class is December 7th but the school still does not have a permanent chancellor.

In July, the preferred candidate for chancellor at the school withdrew from the running. Since then the UNC system Board of Governors approved a new policy for chancellor searches.  However, since the search at Western Carolina was already underway, the board is continuing to follow its old policy.  The only changeis that the search committee has updated the leadership statement of the application with the latest facts and figures such as the new fall semester student totals.

With Margaret Spellings stepping down, the next UNC System president will select a finalistfrom candidates put forth by the Western Carolina University Board of Trustees.  The UNC System Board of Governors must give final approval to that candidate, says Western Carolina spokesperson.

Nominations and application should be sent to Buffin-Baker, the university’s executive recruitment firm via email to the managing partner Martin Baker  at martin@buffinbaker.com.  The deadline for nominations is January 4, 2019.

Interviews are expected to begin as soon as late January. In the meantime, Dr. Alison Morrison-Shetlar will continue as interim chancellor.
