Recycle The Holidays

The post-holiday purge is underway as  people rid their homes of boxes, wrapping paper and trimmings.    Many of those items can go in the recycling bin, but not everything.   BPR’s Helen Chickering got some tips from Nancy Lawson, with Asheville’s Curbside Management.

For more information about recycling and what to do with broken Christmas lights, old batteries and other hard to recycle items check out Asheville’s Curbside Management  and  Asheville Greenworks,

Christmas trees can be turned in to wood chips or compost.  Most trees are collected during the city or county routine brush collection schedule.  Residents are asked to remove lights, tinsel, ornaments and stands prior to placing the trees to the curb for collection.

Helen Chickering is a host and reporter on Blue Ridge Public Radio. She joined the station in November 2014.
