Republican party officials in Mecklenburg County have chosen a former Huntersville commissioner to replace Representative Charles Jeter on the ballot in November. The party’s executive committee picked Beth Danae Caulfield to run for the 92nd District seat this fall.

Jeter resigned last month, citing personal and family reasons.

Meanwhile, the committee last week also named attorney Justin Moore to fill Jeter’s unexpired term.  He’ll serve until January, though the legislature is not currently in session.

Caulfield is a real estate broker. She served one term on the Huntersville Town Board, 2009-11. She’ll face Democrat Chaz Beasley in the November election.

The executive committee’s choices made some local Republicans unhappy. Mecklenburg County Commissioner Jim Puckett says he’s unhappy that the committee passed over Tom Davis, who narrowly lost to Jeter in the March Republican primary. Davis had the backing of other north Mecklenburg party members.
