Asheville attorney and former Mayor Lou Bissette says he wants to serve out the remainder of John Fennesbresque’s term as Chairman of the UNC Board of Governors. Fennesbresque resigned from the board late last month. As Vice Chair of the Board, Bissette became its Interim Chairman. He says the board is required to elect somebody to serve out the remainder of the Chairman’s term, and he wants the job, at least through June. Fennebresque resignation came months after the board forced out UNC System President Tom Ross and the naming of Margaret Spellings as his replacement. Ross's resignation will be effective January 3rd, 2016. Spellings served as Education Secretary in President George W. Bush's Administration. Bissette says he hopes to pave the way for a new Chairman. Bissette's term on the board runs through 2019.
