A former state senator, federal magistrate judge and president of an auto parts company are among the newest members of the University of North Carolina system's governing board.
The state Senate elected eight people Wednesday to the 32-member UNC Board of Governors for four-year terms starting July 1. The House is expected to hold its similar biennial election Thursday.
New board members include former Sen. Thom Goolsby of Wilmington and O. Temple Sloan III, the previous chief executive of the Raleigh-based Carquest auto parts chain now owned by Advance Auto Parts. Ex-U.S. Magistrate Judge William Webb and Fayetteville lawyer Michael Williford also joins the board.
Returning to the board are current Chairman John Fennebresque and Vice Chairman Louis Bissette, as well as Frank Grainger and Anna Spangler Nelson.
