Brevard Music Center (BMC) and BPR are partnering on a live broadcast of Opening Night!, airing on Friday, June 24, from Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium on the BMC campus.
BPR's Anastasia Marie hosts, bringing you insider interviews and music selections beginning at 7:00 PM, and the concert starting around 7:30 PM, on BPR News and BPR Classic, as well as streaming on bpr.org.
The performance opens BMC's core symphonic programming for the 2022 Summer Festival Season, and will be the first live broadcast from its campus in more than a decade and the first-ever Opening Night! broadcast.
Led by BMC Resident Conductor Ken Lam, Opening Night! features Mussorgsky’s showpiece "Pictures at an Exhibition," Respighi’s tone poem "Fountains of Rome," and pianist Conrad Tao. Recognized by The New York Times as an artist of “probing intellect and open-hearted vision,” Tao returns to the stage at BMC to perform Rachmaninoff’s "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini."
It is absolutely thrilling to begin the 2022 Brevard Music Festival season with a live broadcast on Blue Ridge Public Radio. This is the perfect way to celebrate Opening Night! while serving our community. It is also the perfect way to celebrate the arrival of new leadership at BPR - please join us in welcoming BPR’s new GM and CEO, Jeffrey Pope. We look forward to developing and sharing new programs together in collaboration with BPR -- stay tuned!Mark Weinstein, President and CEO of Brevard Music Center
