BPR, which airs The Moth Radio Hour on Saturdays at 1 PM and Sundays at 6 PM, is a proud sponsor of the Asheville Moth StorySLAM. This monthly competition held at The Grey Eagle is open to anyone with a five-minute story to share on the night’s theme.

When the doors open, storyteller hopefuls put their names in The Moth “hat.” A half hour later, names are picked, and one by one, storytellers take the stage. The ten featured stories are scored by teams of judges selected from the audience. Each StorySLAM generates a StorySLAM winner. After ten SLAMs, the winners face off in The Moth’s GrandSLAM Championships.

Tickets often sell out, so get yours now to tell a story or join in the entertainment and community building of sharing this unique and intimate experience. Doors open at 6:30 PM; the stories begin at 7:30 PM. Be sure to visit BPR’s table to chat with staff and enter to win prizes from BPR.

Visit The Moth website to learn more and join The Moth in Asheville Facebook group for behind-the-scenes discussions and StorySLAM highlights.

Book stores, clubs, and libraries. Dog-eared pages with notes in the margins, tell us about one for the record books, or just the CliffsNotes. If you go home with someone and they don't have any...

May 23, 2022
“CRAVINGS:” Prepare a five-minute story about intense desires fueled by your favorite foods, people, or anything that has hit the "I need it now!" button on more than one occasion. Indulging with conviction or abstaining with difficulty! Sugar tooth, primal desire...your hierarchy of needs. Pickles and ice cream, anyone?

Thursday, June 23, 2022
"BIRTHDAYS:" Prepare a five-minute story about a celebration. Once a year, for better or worse. Party hats, blowing out the candle, opening the gifts, or weeping in solitude, wondering where all the years have gone.
