Giving Thanks
Wednesday, November 21st - 8 p.m.
Giving Thanks offers a contemporary celebration of gratitude, with classical music and stories of Thanksgiving. This year, Thanksgiving falls on the Feast Day of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music! Host John Birge is using the occasion to invite one of the world's most treasured composers to the table, John Rutter and the world premier of Rutter's "When Music Sounds." Conductor Nic McGegan will share an 18th century recipe for St. Cecilia punch, and we'll revisit the poetry of former "Giving Thanks" guest and American Poet Laureate Donald Hall, who passed away this year. And of course, the annual spellbinding story from actor Charles Laughton, giving thanks for art that connects us all to the creative spirit.
Morning Classical Music
Thanksgiving Day - 9 a.m. - Noon
On Thanksgiving morning Chip Kaufamann will offer an all-American lineup with music by William Billings, Charles Ives, George Gershwinn, Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, Philip Glass, and others.
Thursday Night Classics
Thanksgiving Day - 7 - 10 p.m.
Thursday Night Classics will feature selections from the Vox Box American Composers Series. This will include hymn music of the Pilgrims, a crecreation of 1858 Social Orchestra concert, as well as American chamber and orchestral music.
