Opening Night: Daniel Nevins Gets Psychedelic in Painting Retrospective at Mars Hill U.

Daniel Nevins created this collage for a Black Uhuru album
Daniel Nevins created this collage for a Black Uhuru album.

Daniel Nevins has painted for nearly 30 years, but if you want to trace his influences, he will point you to the Beatles and the psychedelia of the '60s and '70s. His work was already selling around the world when he moved to Asheville almost 20 years ago. His paintings now grace 30 album covers and even an illustrated version of the Old Testament.

There’s a deep retrospective of his work now showing in the Weizenblatt Gallery at Mars Hill University. In our continuing series of "Opening Night" videos, Matt Peiken of Blue Ridge Public Radio brings us to the opening reception to meet the artist and learn about the spirit behind his vast body of work.
