Tailgate Market Report

WCQS partners with ASAP -- the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project -- for tailgate market updates, heard Thursdays and Fridays during Morning Edition (5am - 9am).

Associate springtime with fresh peas? You're right! Shell peas, snow peas and snap peas (or sugarsnaps) can be found at area tailgate markets now. The season will continue through early summer. Also look for a small selection of green beans, and possibly even a few fava beans.

Other market newcomers include new potatoes, a few peaches, summer squash, and the list goes on. Leafy greens and lettuces still abound.

While shopping this weekend don't forget dear old Dad! in addition to grill-ready foods for a celebratory meal, artisan food vendors and craftspeople will bring perfect Father's Day gifts to market - from salsas ans sauces to handmade coffee mugs.

The North Asheville Tailgate Market has a special Father's Day and Summer Solstice celebration planned for this Satuday, June 15.

Now in season at area tailgate markets:

  • honey
  • peas
  • lettuces
  • cauliflower
  • carrots
  • cabbages
  • mushrooms
  • peaches
  • potatoes
  • turnips
  • strawberries
