Republican state senator Kevin Corbin will not run for Congress, and will instead run for re-election to his current office.  The first-term senator said last week he was considering a run for the GOP nomination in North Carolina’s 14th Congressional district, but made it official this morning that he will instead seek to stay in the General Assembly.

Buncombe County commissioner Jasmine Beach-Ferrara will run for the Democratic nomination in the 11th Congressional district in Western North Carolina next year.  Beach-Ferrara is the first Democrat to formally announce a run to unseat freshman Republican Congressman Madison Cawthorn.

“This is something that just doesn’t happen. It is being deliberately mischaracterized to shame women and to make a court case to overturn Roe V. Wade.” - Buncombe County Democratic state senator Terry Van Duyn during Senate Judiciary Committee's heated debate over SB 359
