NC Republican Party

Western North Carolina’s seven westernmost counties were solidly red this election.

The lone competitive General Assembly election in Western North Carolina was House District 119, which includes Jackson, Swain, and parts of Haywood County.  Republican Mike Clampitt won the seat back Tuesday.

“Well I think this win was a little bit more than the Trump Bump,” said Clampitt.

Former NC Supreme Court Associate Justice and Republican Robert Orr of western North Carolina doubled down on his criticisms of Donald Trump after earlier comments angered NC GOP leaders.  In an extensive interview with WCQS, Orr called the Republican presidential nominee "dangerous" and "unqualified to be president," echoing his earlier remarks to reporters that led to him leaving the Republican National Convention early.

There aren’t many people who can say they spurred a standing ovation from lawmakers not long after posing for a mugshot.

Republican State Senator Fletcher Hartsell, from Concord, accomplished that strange feat on Tuesday.

For seven generations members of the Wallenda family have pulled off incredible tightrope performances.

They've walked between skyscrapers, over Niagara Falls—and even the Grand Canyon—without a safety net.

Republicans from Cherokee to Corolla gathered for their state convention this past weekend. There were no high-wire stunts in Greensboro at the state convention this weekend. But there was certainly a balancing act.

North Carolina Republicans began gathering in Greensboro Friday for their 2016 State Convention.

These are normally events where people rally around candidates, platforms and their party. This year, in this state however, it was also a chance for party faithful to show defiance against the Federal Government.

This Friday and Saturday North Carolina Republicans will gather in Greensboro for their party’s state convention. With Wednesday’s news that Donald Trump is now the de facto Republican nominee we now know there will be no fight over delegates. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be some drama. Last week, the Republican Executive Committee ousted the party’s Chairman Hasan Harnett and elected Robin Hayes in his place. It’s been seen by some as the establishment striking back against a grass roots supported anti-establishment Chairman.

On May 4, WFAE’s Tom Bullock interviewed Hayes and has this report.

Former U.S. Rep. Robin Hayes is back as chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party after GOP activists removed Hasan Harnett from the post for misconduct.  A majority of voting members of the party's Executive Committee Saturday in Raleigh elected Hayes over two other candidates to serve out Harnett's term through the middle of next year.  Hayes served as chairman from mid-2011 to mid-2013, a period of great success for the party as it expanded its advantages in the legislature and Pat McCrory became the first GOP governor in 20 years.

This Saturday, the North Carolina Republican Party will hold an unusual vote, whether or not to expel their current chairman.

The chairman of the North Carolina Republican party has posted Twitter photos juxtaposing images of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and the Ku Klux Klan.

Hasan Harnett posted the images on the social media site Thursday. One shows Klansmen surrounding a burning cross; the caption says the KKK was created as the militant wing of the Democratic Party. The second photo shows Clinton winking.
